From the snow-capped peaks of the High Atlas to the endless golden sands of the Sahara Desert, this unforgettable adventure combines two of Morocco’s most iconic landscapes in one thrilling journey. Perfect for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and cultural explorers alike, this tour offers a rare blend of scenic hikes, Berber hospitality, ancient kasbahs, and desert magic.
Day 1: Marrakech – Imlil – Toubkal Region – Atlas Mountain Trekking
Your journey begins with a morning pick-up from your accommodation in Marrakech, heading south toward the High Atlas Mountains. After a scenic 1.5-hour drive, we arrive at Imlil, a picturesque mountain village and popular base for trekking adventures.
Trekking the Toubkal Valley
Upon arrival, meet your local Berber mountain guide and mule handlers. Begin your trek through the lush Toubkal Valley, surrounded by walnut groves, waterfalls, and traditional villages built into the mountainsides. Along the way, you’ll encounter locals tending their fields and shepherding goats—an intimate glimpse into rural Moroccan life.
We’ll stop for a traditional lunch in a local guesthouse and continue walking through breathtaking trails at the foothills of Mount Toubkal, North Africa’s highest peak (4,167m).
Included: Guided trek, lunch, dinner, and overnight in a Berber guesthouse in the mountains.
Day 2: Imlil – Tizi n’Tichka – Aït Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate
After breakfast, we leave the Atlas behind and drive across the stunning Tizi n’Tichka Pass (2,260m), one of Morocco’s most dramatic roads. Marvel at panoramic mountain views and colorful Berber villages clinging to the hillsides.
Aït Ben Haddou – A Step Back in Time
Our next stop is Aït Ben Haddou, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of Morocco’s most iconic ksars. This clay-brick fortress has starred in major films like Gladiator, The Mummy, and Game of Thrones. Wander its narrow alleys, climb to the hilltop for views of the Ounila Valley, and learn about the history of this fortified village.
Ouarzazate – Morocco’s Desert Gateway
We continue to Ouarzazate, known as the “Hollywood of Africa.” Explore the impressive Taourirt Kasbah and enjoy dinner in a cozy riad.
Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and overnight in a traditional riad in Ouarzazate.
Day 3: Ouarzazate – Draa Valley – Merzouga – Camel Trek at Sunset
After breakfast, we journey deeper into the south, entering the palm-filled Draa Valley, home to ancient caravan routes and fortified villages.
Arrival in Merzouga – Gateway to Erg Chebbi
In the late afternoon, we reach Merzouga, the doorway to the towering Erg Chebbi dunes. After a short rest and tea at a local auberge, it’s time for a highlight of your Moroccan adventure: a camel trek through the Sahara at sunset.
Overnight in a Berber Desert Camp
Ride across golden dunes into the heart of the desert, where your desert camp awaits. Enjoy a traditional Moroccan dinner under the stars, followed by live drumming and storytelling around the campfire. Sleep in a private nomadic tent, with options for standard or luxury upgrades.
Included: Breakfast, lunch, camel trek, dinner, and overnight in a desert camp.
Day 4: Merzouga – Rissani – Todra Gorges – Dades Valley
Wake before sunrise for a magical view of the sun rising over the Sahara dunes. After breakfast and a camel ride back to Merzouga, we continue toward the town of Rissani, once a vital trading center in ancient times.
Todra Gorges – Towering Cliffs and River Views
Next, we visit the spectacular Todra Gorges, where massive limestone cliffs soar over 300 meters high. Take a leisurely walk along the river, surrounded by date palms and vibrant landscapes.
Dades Valley – Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs
We end the day in the breathtaking Dades Valley, where red rock formations and ancient kasbahs line the landscape. Enjoy dinner and stay overnight in a cozy guesthouse overlooking the canyon.
Included: Breakfast, lunch, dinner, and accommodation in Dades Valley.
Day 5: Dades Valley – Skoura Oasis – Marrakech
After breakfast, we begin our return journey to Marrakech, traveling through the Road of a Thousand Kasbahs and the Skoura Oasis, a fertile area filled with palm groves and ancient fortresses.
Optional Stop in Ouarzazate
We stop again in Ouarzazate for lunch and final sightseeing before crossing the Tizi n’Tichka Pass back through the High Atlas Mountains, arriving in Marrakech by early evening. You’ll be dropped off at your accommodation, marking the end of an epic 5-day journey.
